Bangle Size Guide

Finding the right bangle size is essential for both comfort and ease of wear. In this guide, discover how to determine your bangle size, measure your hand or wrist, and understand the measurements used across different bangle styles.

Finding the Right Bangle Size

A bangle is a closed, structured form designed to slide over the hand and rest around the wrist or lower forearm. While traditional bangles are generally circular, contemporary designs may feature softer, organic or sculptural forms.

Because a closed bangle needs to pass over the widest part of your hand, choosing the right size is particularly important.

If the bangle is too small, it may be difficult to slide over the hand.

If it is too large, it may move excessively or slip off during wear.

The right proportion ensures that the bangle feels comfortable while maintaining the intended look of the piece.

How to Measure for Your Bangle Size

The method you use depends on the style of bangle you are choosing. There are three simple ways to determine your size:

01. Measure your hand

For closed bangles that need to pass over the hand.

02. Measure your wrist

For cuffs, open bangles and hinged styles designed to sit around the wrist.

03. Measure an existing bangle

For a bangle that already fits you comfortably.

What you will need

A flexible measuring tape, or a piece of ribbon or string together with a straight ruler.

If you already own a bangle that fits well, you can use the bangle itself to determine the required diameter.

Measure Your Hand Width

Step 01
Bring your fingers together and tuck your thumb into your palm, creating the shape your hand would take when putting on a bangle.

Step 02
Wrap a flexible measuring tape around the widest part of your hand, including the knuckles and thumb. Note the measurement where the tape meets. This is your hand circumference.

Measure Your Wrist Size

This method is suitable for cuffs, hinged bangles and open styles that are designed to sit directly around the wrist.

Step 01
Wrap a flexible measuring tape around your wrist, just above the wrist bone. Keep it comfortably close to the skin without pulling it tight.

Step 02
Mark or note the point where the tape meets. This measurement gives you your wrist circumference.

Measure a Bangle You Already Own

If you have a bangle that fits you comfortably, measuring its inner diameter is one of the simplest ways to determine your size.

Step 01
Place the bangle flat on a surface.

Step 02
Using a straight ruler, measure across the centre of the bangle from one inside edge to the opposite inside edge.

This measurement is the bangle’s internal diameter and can be compared with the size chart to determine your closest fit.

Understanding Bangle Sizes

Bangle sizing can be expressed in different ways depending on the design and sizing system. You may see measurements given as internal diameter, circumference or a corresponding size designation.

When reviewing a bangle size chart, always check whether the measurement refers to the inside diameter or internal circumference.

Understanding the measurement

Internal Diameter (Ø)
The distance measured straight across the inside of the bangle.

Internal Circumference
The complete measurement around the inside of the bangle.

When working from circumference:
Internal Diameter = Hand Circumference ÷ 3.14

And:
Circumference = Internal Diameter × 3.14

Measurements may be displayed in millimetres, centimetres or inches, depending on the sizing system used.

Sizes are a guide. Some designs are oval rather than round, and an oval bangle sits closer to the wrist. Check the product page for the exact inner measurements.
